La Sierra de las Nieves de MÁLAGA se convirtió en el decimosexto parque nacional oficial de España, logrando el nivel más alto de protección del país después de una votación en el Congreso la semana pasada.
El consejo del Congreso conocido como Comisión de Transición Ecológica votó 34 a favor y cero en contra de la legislatura que buscaba nombrar las 23.000 hectáreas de Sierra como área protegida.
El equipo detrás de la aprobación, liderado por Juan Antonio López de Uralde, espera que el nuevo proyecto de ley conserve las «cualidades únicas que la Sierra de las Nieves tiene para ofrecer durante muchos años».
España es el país más rico en biodiversidad de la Unión Europea y tenemos una gran responsabilidad en su conservación, más aún en un contexto de cambio climático que compromete aún más la conservación de la naturaleza. Dijo de Uralde después de la audiencia.
La zona engloba las localidades de Benahavís, El Burgo, Istán, Monda, Parauta, Ronda, Tolox y Yunquer y alberga a más de 63.000 habitantes, principalmente agricultores, ganaderos y ecologistas.
Reconociendo los problemas potenciales que la reclasificación causará a sus residentes, los miembros del Congreso ofrecieron su «total apoyo» a cualquier persona afectada por el proyecto de ley.
Sin embargo, la Asociación de Jóvenes Agricultores de Málaga (ASAJA) se muestra cautelosa con las ramificaciones que conllevará la nueva etiqueta.
“Aunque la reclasificación y protección de la Sierra de las Nieves como parque nacional es en general positiva, ha habido muy poca mención de prioridad para los residentes de la región. Dijo un portavoz de la organización.
La organización advierte que las nuevas restricciones que vienen con la nueva clasificación conducirán a un proceso burocrático interminable para los terratenientes y agricultores.
También advirtió que las fuertes restricciones sobre la gestión de la caza podrían tener un efecto perjudicial en la población silvestre, así como en los pastores locales.
«Esperamos que a medida que el proyecto de ley pase por el Senado, estos descuidos sean rectificados».
La Sierra de Las Nieves alberga uno de los ecosistemas con mayor biodiversidad de España, con más de 1.500 especies de plantas diferentes, algunas de las cuales solo se encuentran en la región de Ronda.
La más emblemática de todas las especies es el abeto mediterráneo, una especie antigua que se mantiene viva en los escarpados alrededores del parque.
El parque también alberga más de 120 especies de aves, que van desde milanos negros hasta águilas reales, así como una gran cantidad de invertebrados interesantes como el cangrejo de río rojo y especies raras de salamandra.
